Have you seen the prices of meat lately? Ouch! In my home we are trying to build our savings yet the cost of everyday living seems to still be rising. We all want to feed ourselves and our families well, without breaking the bank.

It is recommended that pregnant women consume a minimum of 80 grams of protein per day. I include women who are preconception and breastfeeding in that recommendation as well!

Here are four inexpensive ways to get some protein throughout your day. I love to bring these items out for breakfasts and snacks.

  • Bulk Rolled Oats - 10 grams protein per 1 cup serving - $0.50

  • Organic Eggs - 7 grams protein per egg - $0.33

  • Bulk Black Beans - 8 grams protein per 1/2 cup serving - $0.17

  • Peanut Butter - 8 grams protein per 2 tablespoons - $0.14

Prices posted are from my local Sprouts in Fort Collins. I like that Sprouts has the option to purchase organic bulk foods at much lower cost.
