The Number One Way to Prepare for Breastfeeding

If you’re pregnant and preparing to breastfeed for the first time, you’ve probably started to do a little research! There are many wonderful blogs, books, accounts and videos to learn from.

But we need to talk about this one invaluable way you should prepare yourself for a beautiful breastfeeding journey!

✨Observation✨

No book or article can replace watching someone, in person, correctly latch and breastfeed their baby. There’s nothing quite like seeing it with your own eyes, hearing the sounds baby makes when they are nursing well, and understanding the different ways to position, hold and adjust.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a breastfeeding friend or family member to observe in person. If that’s you, you still have options!

My advice? Find a breastfeeding support group in your area! In Northern Colorado you can check out the in-person breastfeeding support groups through The Nest Postpartum or Motherhood Untamed Lactation. You can also find a La Leche League group near you.

Attend a few groups BEFORE your breastfeeding journey begins, ask all your questions, and learn from real women and real babies!

And if you still need a little more prep work as you look forward to postpartum, breastfeeding basics and newborn care - check out my online Postpartum Class “Life with Your New Baby”. You’ll get 12 months of access to invaluable class videos and exclusive resources - plus a one-on-one virtual class with me! It's a great add-on class to either the online Hospital Birth Class or Home & Birth Center Class
