Why Not Just Take the Class at the Hospital?

There’s a good chance your provider has suggested that you take the birth class associated with their practice, perhaps through their hospital or birth center. It seems convenient, but there are a few reasons why it may not be in your best interest!

Rather than showing you how to take charge of your own birth, they may only be an instructional guide on how to be a “good patient”. How to cooperate with the hospital staff and provider’s own wishes.

These sponsored birth classes may educate you on the process of birth - as long as it’s the process your provider likes best. They may inform you on your options - but only the ones that fit within your provider’s favorite protocols. They may give you some tools to face the challenges of childbirth - but assume you’ll have a textbook, medicalized experience.

As an independent birth instructor, I have only your best interests in mind.

No one is paying me to say something that will benefit them.

No one is inserting their personal agenda into my curriculum.

No one is sponsoring my content.

As an independent birth instructor, I can support you. Not your provider.
